Tyczka Hydrogen builds another hydrogen filling station in Bavaria

Supported by the Free State of Bavaria, Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH is building a hydrogen refueling station in Schweinfurt, Lower Franconia, thus expanding its presence in the H2 refueling station market.

The construction of the hydrogen refueling station (HRS) with a refueling capacity of one ton per day is scheduled to begin in mid-2025: It should then go into operation in the first half of 2026.

The planned filling station can refuel hydrogen vehicles at both 350 and 700 bar and is therefore suitable for all hydrogen-powered road vehicles. The focus is on fuel cell commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses and refuse collection vehicles.

Attractive location

The new filling station is being built in the industrial port of the Lower Franconian city of Schweinfurt, not far from the A70, A71 and A7 highways. Thanks to its central, convenient location, this site is ideal for supplying heavy goods vehicles with hydrogen.

Dr. Frank Götzelmann, CEO of the Tyczka Group, emphasizes: “Together with local companies and stakeholders, we are developing the Schweinfurt area into a hydrogen region. With the construction of the hydrogen filling station, we are making an important contribution to this.”

“Building another hydrogen filling station of our own is a project close to our hearts at Tyczka Hydrogen. We are excited about increasing our company's hydrogen sales in the mobility segment and making an active contribution to promoting sustainable mobility,” says Dr. Christoph Stiller, Head of Business Development and Sales at Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH.

In addition, the city is fully behind the project, as Mayor Sebastian Remelé confirms: “The city of Schweinfurt together with Stadtwerke Schweinfurt is delighted that Tyczka has chosen this location. This investment is not only an important building block for the decarbonization of our regional mobility, it is also a key element in further establishing Schweinfurt as an H2 region.”

Growing presence in the H2 filling station market

This is already the third hydrogen filling station in the growing filling station network for Tyczka Hydrogen. In addition to the new facility in Schweinfurt, Tyczka Hydrogen has built another filling station of its own in the Augsburg freight center, which will open on June 17, and is involved in a filling station in Hofolding, south of Munich, via Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH. The filling stations supply growing fleets of buses in public transport, trucks in forwarding and delivery traffic, hydrogen-powered waste collection vehicles, light commercial vehicles and, in some cases, fuel cell cars.

State funding

The Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi) is funding the construction of the hydrogen filling station with 2 million euros as part of the Bavarian filling station funding program H2T. Hubert Aiwanger, Minister of Economic Affairs, also welcomes the decision: “Hydrogen is essential for decarbonizing heavy goods transport in particular. For this reason, I am particularly pleased that we can support Tyczka Hydrogen in helping to develop the infrastructure for this.”
