Tyczka Hydrogen acquires the Hydrogen Hub in Hünfeld-Michelsrombach from ABO Energy

Geretsried, 19/08/2026

Tyczka Hydrogen is expanding its production capacities for RFNBO-certified green hydrogen: with the acquisition of this production, filling and refuelling station site, the company is simultaneously advancing its hydrogen refuelling station network and strengthening the reliable supply of RFNBO-certified green hydrogen.

The site combines a 5 MW PEM electrolyser, a trailer filling station and a public 350 bar refuelling station in one location. Situated in the Hessian logistics park "Hessisches Kegelspiel" in the immediate vicinity of the A7 motorway, it adds a production capacity of 400–600 tonnes of hydrogen per year to the company's own RFNBO hydrogen sources. This corresponds to roughly the annual fuel consumption of 100 public transport buses or 100 heavy-duty trucks.

"With this acquisition, we are consistently continuing our strategic growth trajectory in the hydrogen market. At the same time, we are strengthening our position as one of the leading suppliers of RFNBO-certified hydrogen and are systematically expanding our presence as an operator of hydrogen refuelling stations," says Dr Frank Götzelmann, CEO of the Tyczka Group.

The plant has been in operation since 2025 and has been certified for the production of RFNBO hydrogen under the CertifHy EU RFNBO Voluntary Scheme since 1 July 2025. Even prior to the acquisition, it served Tyczka Hydrogen as one of its supply sources. The RFNBO hydrogen produced on site is both made available directly at the refuelling station for hydrogen-powered vehicles and transported by trailer to end customers.

For Tyczka Hydrogen, the site represents another important strategic building block in the development of a robust proprietary hydrogen source network that creates additional production capacity and improves regional coverage in central Germany.

Thomas Zorn, Managing Director of Tyczka Hydrogen, adds: "Together with the hydrogen hub currently under construction in Schweinfurt, operational synergies are emerging in the region that will further increase delivery capacity and security of supply for Tyczka Hydrogen's customers. I am particularly looking forward to working with customers and partners in the region, with whom we aim to further expand the use of hydrogen."

ABO Energy developed, built and, until now, operated the hydrogen hub in Hünfeld-Michelsrombach. The transaction became legally effective on 17 August 2026.

The project is funded with a total of twelve million euros by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the National Innovation programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP). Funding for this measure is also provided under the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP) via the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) within the NextGenerationEU programme. The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Projektträger Jülich (PtJ).
